Mythical creatures in march

This month, we are highlighting some of the most wonderful mythical creatures that are explored within romantasy! These beings not only enrich the stories but also often reflect deeper themes of love, power, and identity. As romantasy readers we encounter a lot of various beings in beautiful, imagined worlds. While I am personally majorly obsessed with dragons, there are many other captivating beings I want to showcase, each offering a unique interpretation of what mythical creatures can be! These four books all have a unique take on what mythical creatures entail, and we cannot wait to hear your thoughts on them.

Kazul

from The Enchanted Forest Chronicles
by Patricia C. Wrede

Meet Kazul, the dragon with a heart as grand as his treasure hoard! He’s no grumpy beast; instead, he’s a charming companion to the intrepid Princess Cimorene. With a quick wit and a knack for adventure, Kazul and Cimorene embark on whimsical escapades that sprinkle their journey with laughter and friendship. Who knew dragons could be such delightful allies in the pursuit of independence and romance?

Yumeko

from Shadow of the fox
by Julie Kagawa

In the captivating world of “Shadow of the Fox”, Yumeko is a lively half-kitsune with the delightful ability to shape-shift, making her both a playful trickster and a brave heroine. On her quest for the legendary dragon pearl, she navigates a vibrant landscape filled with danger and intrigue. Yumeko’s journey highlights her internal struggle between her kitsune instincts and her human emotions, reflecting themes of identity and acceptance. Along the way, she forms deep bonds with a cast of fascinating characters, showcasing the beautiful power of friendship.

Lira

from To Kill a Kingdom
by Alexandra Christo

In this retelling of The Little Mermaid, mermaids are portrayed as fierce and cunning beings, shaping the plot in crucial ways. Lira, the protagonist, is a siren determined to prove her worth by collecting human hearts (yes that’s right human hearts). Through her interactions with Prince Elian, the story delves into romance and adventure, exploring themes of identity, sacrifice, and the clash between two worlds. The mermaids’ allure and danger create a wonderous backdrop for the unfolding story, as Lira struggles with her dual nature and the choices that define her fate.

The Banshees

From The Book of Azrael

By AMber V. Nicole

With humor, wit, and occasional plot twists, this series serves up a heady combination of adventure, a romantic love triangle, and lots of lore. A fierce maiden bound by duty finds her fate forever changed when a mysterious guard challenges everything she’s been taught about love, freedom, and destiny. Just be prepared for some serious reading and commitment because not only is this a very long series but you’ll most likely forget your responsibilities – you’re welcome!

And there you have it! Four wonderful mythical creatures to explore during the month of March. Which one is your favorite? And which amazing ones did we forget to mention? Let us know!
